about the event
the talks will take place across february with queercircle, a new london based lgbtq+ led charity working at the intersection of arts, culture and social action.
the conversations all share the same general theme of "ecology", looking specifically at the politics of care.
i have chosen a line up of speakers who i feel explore ecology in interesting ways and whose values are aligned with the sisterwoman tenets of community, education and mindfulness.
all talks will be recorded and transcribed for the queercircle website. tickets are FREE but you do need to book a ticket.
7/2/23 - Fatima "Fatti" Tarkleman is a zero-waste migrant chef of mixed African-Asian descent. She has special interests in cross-cultural cooking that prioritises sustainability and inclusivity, while representing her London upbringing, and the flavours of her heritage. Fatima works as a development chef, workshop facilitator, recipe writer, and content creator. She embraces innovative ways of using age-old techniques to make delicious food, putting care for people, their stories, and nature at the heart of her practice. Fatti is currently working at the ultra-sustainable Silas Yard in Hoxton, as well as curating her collaborative cookbook Kin~spiration: recipes to waste less by chefs and their inspirations.
14/2/23 - Samia Dumbuya (she/they) is a powerhouse facilitator and public speaker. They are a climate justice activist with a deep interest in engaging communities by exploring and building collective tools to create change. Samia believes in people power and has experience working with Friends of the Earth Europe and Change.org as a campaigner and a Climate justice and energy campaigner. Samia's work focus is raising awareness about the importance of integrating the intersectionality framework into the work of the climate movement and building community. They are currently an Impact Producer for Complicité engaging audiences to take climate action and they are also a Project Assistant for The Resilience Project helping young people navigate eco-anxiety.
28/2/23 - Shanice Bryce is the founder of Studio Oom:
What started as a one-off supper club in response to the effects of the climate crisis in Jamaica, oom continued to be inspired by how food could serve as a catalyst for connection.
oom's philosophical way of approaching creativity sees food, art, and design as an ecosystem – food being the sustenance, art being the environment, and design being the vessel.
